The history of our spice factory

Founder Ingo Holland could look back on a long, successful career as a top and Michelin-starred chef. Until he gave up his restaurant in 2007, Ingo Holland was one of the 38 best chefs in Germany. From 1991 to 2007 he held a Michelin star, and his restaurant "Zum Alten Rentamt" in Klingenberg was awarded 18 Gault Millau points. The inferior spice qualities that were offered to him as a chef prompted Ingo Holland to search for the best spice qualities himself.

At this point, a passion developed into a new challenge and calling: the foundation stone for the Altes Gewürzamt was laid and Ingo Holland founded the “Altes Gewürzamt” factory in his home town in 2001. Together with his son Kilian, he devoted himself to the search for exceptional raw materials of the highest quality and the development of innovative spice blends.
